Lake Natron Game Controlled Area

Lake Natron Camp

5/5
Lake Natron Camp is a unique, ecological camp set in one of the most visually dramatic locations in the world! Home to the Maasai, abundant wildlife and over 1 million flamingos, the camp is perfectly situated for amazing adventures! Whilst in camp, relax with a glass of wine in the natural pool or have a massage from a local Maasai. Take a short walk to the lake or cool off in the waterfalls. Lake Natron Camp holds ten spacious guest tents, cleverly disguised under camouflaged shade netting. Each tent is comprised of a porch area, main bedroom, and en-suite bathroom with a shower and eco toilet. The main bedroom is furnished with a comfy king size bed, luxurious Egyptian linen and furniture made from greenwood (with the possibility of 2 extra single beds upon request). A private path leads from each tent to the natural swimming pool in the spring-fed stream.
As the sun rises behind Gelai, the mess tent fills with exquisite colours of orange and pink. Soon after, the strength of the sun heats the land quickly, but the material of the tent is designed to keep you cool even during the hottest of days.
Guests can enjoy 360°views of the striking landscape that surrounds Lake Natron Camp. Look north to the lake where hundreds of thousands of flamingos come to breed; or to the south where Ol Doinyo Lengai dominates the landscape in every way. To the west, watch the sunset with a gin and tonic over the Masonic Mountain above the famous escarpment of the Great Rift Valley or just relax on the Bedouin style furniture (also made from waste plastic) and watch the world go by in one of the most peaceful environments you can imagine.
The mess is equipped with a bar, fridge, Wi-Fi and charging point for your cameras and phones. Outside, guests can sit around the campfire in the evening and gaze at the millions of stars overhead from both the northern and southern hemisphere.

Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge

3/5
This charming intimate eco-lodge was set up by a Belgian/Maasai couple to give employment to the locals. Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge is located in Northern Tanzania, at the foot of the Ol Donyoi Lengai volcano, next to Engaresero, a small isolated village that was created after the installation of the Loliondo-Arusha bus line, allowing the development of the village.
Ideally situated next to Lake Natron, in the vast plain of the Rift Valley surrounded by majestic volcanoes, the lodge offers you the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of activities. You will be immersed in the heart of another age, in an unspoilt wilderness where you will be able to observe the numerous birds that inhabit the surrounding area, such as pink flamingos, as well as wildlife. Every morning, large groups of giraffes bypass the lodge on their way back from the river where they drink every night, offering the visitors a magnificent spectacle.
The local people living around the lodge are mainly Maasai. They perpetuate their pastoral way of life by keeping their livestock and moving their herds in perfect harmony with their environment. At the lodge you will have the opportunity to meet them and discover their way of life and traditions.
The 10 rooms, built as a typical Maasai hut, are tailored to the rugged and hot surroundings, and provide the basic comfort you need after a long day. All rooms have a private bathroom with shower and hot water, a solar fan, a private terrace, and a breath-taking view on the Ol Donyoi Lengai volcano. A natural water pool offers cooling, the terraces have wide views over the sweltering plain and the Ol Doinyo Lengai, and the restaurant is decorated with the red colour of the Maasai tribe.
